LUL Twitch Emote Meaning
The Twitch LUL emote is used when something that is happening in the channel makes us laugh. It can be used whether the streamer has said something funny, or just something funny has happened.
This emote is used as a synonym of the terms LOL, LMAO or ROFL.
It is now one of the free Twitch emotes and no extension is needed for its use.
LUL Emote Origin
The origin of the LUL emote takes us back to June 23, 2013. On that date, a user of the Flickr photography social network, called itsjustatank, uploaded a picture of John "TotalBiscuit" Bain laughing.
The photo of TotalBiscuit was taken during the Major League Gaming Anaheim 2013. TotalBiscuit is the alias everyone knows for this video game critic and commentator.
In 2014, TotalBiscuit added the emote for his subscribers on his own Twitch channel. But in July, the photographer sued the streamer for using his picture as a paid emote.
In 2016, the emote was added to the BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ extensions, which we must have installed if we want to view and use the emote' s variants. And on September 1, 2017, almost a year and two months later, Twitch.tv added the emote as part of its list of free emote for everyone.
TotalBiscuit was a well-known British critic and commentator. He called himself the #1 Critic on YouTube (2.04M followers), and the truth is that everyone loved him. He made numerous videos and podcasts talking about video games and giving his vision on many subjects.
In 2014, John announced the terrible news that he was suffering from intestinal cancer, and the following year he reported that it had no cure. On May 1, 2018, he officially retired as a commentator and just 23 days later, his widow, Genna Bain, announced the death of the well-known critic.
The last video published on his YouTube channel, was a summary where streamers and friends gave him a last goodbye.
Variations of the LUL Emote
LULW
It is a variation of the LUL emote and consists of a zoom of the original emote. It was created on November 2, 2016 and was uploaded by user Ian678 to FrankerFaceZ.
Later, on April 27, 2017, youtuber Sequensy uploaded a video entitled "OH GOD LULW FUCK LULW GOD LULW FUCK LULW GOTTA STOP THE BLEEDING LULW" and shows us a mosaic of the emote.
LULW is used when something makes us laugh more than when we use LUL.
OMEGALUL
It is another variation of the LUL emote. It was also uploaded to FrankerFaceZ on September 10, 2016, by the user DourGent, and shows us the LUL emote with an oversized mouth.
This emote is used for when we laugh a lot more than with LUL and LULW. Also, in the chat, many people use it to replace the capital "O".
How is LUL pronounced?
LUL is pronounced as: “L-U-L”.
Conclusion
The LUL emote is one of the most used emotes to react to a funny situation during a stream. It has two variations that are valid to express different degrees of laughter. The emote shows us a photo of the late commentator John "TotalBiscuit" Bain laughing out loud.
